Initial Thoughts:

I loved the show Deadwood, HBO consistently makes great TV and movies and that show was one of them. I was, however, disappointed in the ending so I was glad to hear that a movie was finally being made to tie up the loose ends and give a proper ending.

Main Points:

I'll be clear, I thought the acting in this movie was excellent all around. Everyone involved is either as good, or better than they were 13 years ago. The same goes for the action, set design and everything else involved with making this movie, it looks great and it was fun to be back in the nitty-gritty world of Deadwood. All that fun and nostalgia, however, wore off in about 30 minutes and what followed was a rushed mess that I found little enjoyment with (in terms of story).

Events happen at breakneck speed once all the characters show up and it sadly just all goes downhill. I won't spoil it for you but I'll just say that it gets completely ridiculous and aside from 4 or 5 short moments, I just wanted it to end.

Final Thoughts:

Sometimes you can't go home again, this was certainly the case here. I suppose it is nice to have a more definitive ending for the characters (most of them at least) but getting there was torture. I can only give this a 6.5 out of 10. This has graphic violence, nudity and lots of swearing, so please ages 18+. I would only recommend this to the most hardcore Deadwood fans, even then be prepared for disappointment.
