Finally getting a chance to put together my reflections on the latest Sci-fi on the Rock convention here in Newfoundland. I always enjoy conventions and this year was no exception. I want to say thanks right away to everyone involved with the convention, everyone does a great job and makes the experience a great one for vendors/artists such as myself, along with everyone else who attends. I would also commend all of the staff at the Sheraton, they also helped it run smoothly and as I had lunch there 3 times I was happy to have a vegetarian options. This year in particular I know those behind the scenes worked very hard and several guests cancelled and they had to scramble to get replacements.
I only spoke to one of the guest this year, Fintan McKeown, nice guy and we chatted about Ireland, Star Trek and some other stuff (I was sitting right behind him). As always the costumes were amazing. After the first four pics, I didn’t take but had to include.
I’ll be honest and say my sales were poor this year. That’s not a reflection on anyone involved with the convention, I think it’s more an indication of the NL economy that anything else.
Also while I understand the reason why ticket prices are set at the current level (and the attendance numbers was up from last year as far as I know) I did have several friends mention to me they found them too high.
I’m not trying to be a downer, just giving my honest opinion. I gave my talk as usual and I was happy a few people did attend and at least one person had some questions.
Overall an excellent convention, it was ran smoothly, professionally and I know that they do a great job promoting it and received lots o media coverage and positive feedback.
Also my apologies for the mess of this post, I am having my site redone in the next few months. Until next time (which will be a movie review).
