You’ll notice I’ll be post reviews for older movies/Netflix ones this week. I’ve been home more often than normal and I decided to catch up on some stuff. I’ve always enjoyed the Alien movies (haven’t read very many comics) and with the new one out, I decided to finally watch Prometheus.
I had heard bad reviews when this came out in 2012 and I never saw it in theaters. As I said above though I’ve had time and watched it. The movie is a little slow to get going but it is shot really well, has interesting ideas, a good cast and good special effects. I thought all the acting was good and once the action does start, it’s pretty exciting.
It is certainly the most cerebral of the Alien movies and much different from all the rest. This isn’t a bad thing, just perhaps not what the majority of fans are looking for. It has the usual horror elements, it’s ALWAYS bad to touch anything when you are on an alien planet and NEVER take off your mask! People do it in the movie, repeatedly! So that was annoying and I thought unrealistic for skilled scientists to do.
I also have to say that there is a big flaw at the end related to oxygen levels (it was enough to bother me anyway) and some weird stuff with the robot David (he certainly seems to have emotions that he claims he doesn’t!). Overall though I enjoyed this movie, I give it 7.5 out of 10 and I do recommend it as a sci-fi movie, more so than an Alien movie (though if you’re a completest that certainly watch it). Please don’t let young children see this, due to violence, sexual situations and language ages 17+. Now I can see the latest Alien movie but for now I need to get going, until next time!
