Initial Thoughts:
I know, it’s been a busy summer and I’m way behind. I’ll be on vacation this week and that should mean getting all caught on. Anyway I’ve seen all the Mission Impossible movies in theater, so this one got good reviews and I wasn’t about to miss it.
Main Points:
Say what you want about Tom Cruise it is amazing he still does so many of his own stunts. For a man in his 50s he can still move fast and he is the only one I can think of as Ethan Hunt. Henry Cavill is also good here, as is the rest of the cast (including Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames).
The movie is completely ridiculous but that’s not the point. I had fun watching it and there are a few moments when it pokes a little bit of fun at itself, giving you a few laughs. Special effects and action are excellent and the story is ok. Also worth mentioning is Alec Baldwin (who I’ve always liked) and Angel Bassett, they both turn in good performances in smaller roles.
You know what you’re going to get with these movies and this one doesn’t disappoint. While I wouldn’t say its the best of all of them, it’s certainly one of the better ones. It is what all the others are, a summer flick that it fairly light on story, big on action and special effects, which is what most summer flicks are supposed to be.
Final Thoughts:
This is the sixth one and while I generally like stories to continue, this should be the end. It ties up a loose end from a previous movie and really any more Cruise could just look ridiculous but it’s Hollywood, so I’m sure there will be another. That I enjoyed it and I give it 7.5 out of 10. Very predictable and a little dragged out but some good entertainment. Please don’t bring small children, ages 13+. If it’s still in theaters and you need a break from a hot day, it’s a pleasant distraction. Don’t bother with IMAX or 3D, it just doesn’t do much.
