Initial Thoughts:
I’m a fan of Mark Wahlberg, he’s done some good roles. I also like Lauren Cohan (I’ve watched her for years on Walking Dead), so there wasn’t much else playing and we decided to see this.
Main Points:
The story here is ok and there are a few good action scenes (there is a lot of action in this!), there’s even a few funny parts. The big problem is that it has this style where the action goes so fast (in particular with hand to hand combat) that you can barely see what is going on. That and there were times where the sound quality was so bad I couldn’t even make out what people where saying.
Wahlberg is fine here and it’s nice to see Cohan in a movie. Watching her curse is funny and she has some really good action scenes. Malkovich is also good, though I would have liked to have seen him take a bigger role. The begging part is some great action and an interesting start but things get more predictable as it goes on. I will add, however, that there is a surprise at the end that I didn’t see coming.
Final Thoughts:
Not a terrible movie, just very mediocre. I’d wait for something better to come out but if you really like action movies (and the actors in this) than I do give it a mild recommendation. This is the first movie I’ve seen where Trump is mentioned, they poke fun of him a little (which I like) but it’s also sad that he has made it into Hollywood movies as President, I know he is but still, the world is shitty. Anyway didn’t mean to get all negative. Please don’t bring kids to this, lots of blood, violence and coarse language, ages 18+. 6 out of 10 from me, next is a book review and I’m caught up!
