Initial Thoughts:
This is an Oscar nominated movie that I never got a chance to see last year. I had heard good things about it and I’ve always liked Jeff Bridges (and Chris Pine) so as it’s been a movie-watching month, I gave it a try.
Main Points:
The plot is fairly straightforward, so I won’t get into it. I enjoyed this movie, the acting is excellent by all hands. Chris Pine has come a long way and I really enjoyed seeming him take a part other than the hero. His character is a thief here and an accomplish to murder to you still like him. Jeff Bridges plays an old Texas ranger about to retire and this is his last case, it’s a big one he’ll never forget.
The movie also gives an idea of the economy in small town America (at least in Texas) and the hatred people have for banks (and cops to some extent). There is also some other social themes brought up and towards the end some good action scenes.
Final Thoughts:
I can see why this was nominated for 4 Oscars, excellent film. I give it a solid 8 out of 10 and a good recommendation. I didn’t love the ending, it leaves things open and ultimately you have to decide what may have happened. Sex, violence, language and nudity, so please no children, ages 17+.
