Initial Thoughts:
I hadn’t heard a lot about this movie. I had seen the preview and it got a good rating on IMDB, so we decided to go a few weeks ago.
Main Points:
Allison Williams was the only person I knew beforehand (used to watch her in Girls) but I was quickly impressed with Jordan Peele who did a good job here. Seems fairly normal, but things about mid-way through take a darn turn. I was a little surprised so I won’t do spoilers here. I’ll say that while the twist is fairly ridiculous (like sci-fi stuff) it was none the less fairly interesting.
This movie obviously has some racial issues, as a white guy I’m not sure I’m qualified. So from my limited knowledge I think they handle the African-American issues well enough here. This movie holds up with a decent story, good direction and nice acting from most of those involved. There are also some nice creepy moments and good use of an obscure song.
Final Thoughts:
I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. While I don’t think it will win any Oscar I give it a 7.5 out of 10. If you’re looking to see a movie, of course I’d recommend Logan first (my review for that will be up tomorrow). But if it’s sold out or you’re just not in the mood, this is also a pleasant way to spend some time in the movie theater. Certainly not for kids, for violence, blood, gore and some sexual situations I’d say ages 17+. So I do recommend this movie, be prepared for some gory scenes but any horror fan should enjoy it.
